There is a reason the Federal Reserve decided to announce the first hike in the discount rate since 2006 after the market’s close this past Thursday. With a precedence of jittery responses to stimulus withdrawal in other countries (most notably the hikes to China’s reserve ratio); the central bankers were concerned such a move could trigger a panic among speculators born from the fear that the fuel for 2009’s rally was disappearing. However, after an initial rally from the greenback immediately after the release; the currency tempered its gains. As much as the fundamental and interest rate backdrop is improving for the US; underlying risk trends are still the primary guide for the benchmark currency. Yet, this connection hasn’t condemned the dollar’s rally. A comparison between the Dollar Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average these past few weeks shows something quite unusual: a positive correlation. My ears thank me everyday ever since I bought the JBuds J2 Noise-Canceling Earbuds(Will be refered to as “Jbuds” throughout this review) by Jlab Audio. Jbuds stereo earphones are perfect for anywhere, including loud environment because of its noise reduction technology. Ok maybe it’s not noise reducing “technology” but the comfortable earphones fit perfect in my ear and blocks out the outside noises. Now I don’t need to blast my iPod’s volume up. Unlike Noise Cancellation, these headphones do not need batteries.

Why I love these earphones

I couldn’t believe how good these earphones are for only $15. Here are the pros…

Noise Reduction –

I ride the bus which can get loud with the engine noise, people talking, and other cars passing by. These earphones truly do reduce unwanted outside noise. This is one of the reasons I love these headphones!

Comfortable in-ear –

I forget that I have earphones in my ear sometimes. It’s that comfortable. The earphones also come with 3 sizes of silicone cushions.

Very durable –

I could have saved hundreds of dollars if I chose Jbuds as my first earphones! This is no exaggeration. Every pair of earphones I bought ended up in the trash because the wire inside broke and no sound came out of the earphones. Sound familiar right? I bet it happened to you too. My Jbuds earphones are still working after a good 7 months use. Even my Apple earphones broke in about 3-4 months. So I know for sure that when Jlab Audio says these are durable, they mean it! This is perhap the main reason I love these earphones! For the benefit, the hearing of the music will be excellent at the play beatz headphones. There will be no damage to the ear of the person. The quantity of the benefits will be high when compared to the other headphones. The comfort of cushions will be provided to the ear of the person. 

High crisp sound –

A lot of earphones I’ve used have to much treble. These earphones have a perfect balance when it comes to high notes. It sounds crisp and clear and does not distort.

Powerful Bass –

I can actually hear the bass drum! Can you believe it? Actually, I can “feel” the bass more than hear it. It’s that powerful! Also a perfect balance between to much “bass” and “treble” recreating the bass sound the way it was meant to sound.

High Quality –

After reading about the high crisp sound and powerful bass you might as well figured this out already but these earphones are high quality!

“Looks to Kill” –

On the Jlab Audio website, they describe it as “Looks to Kill”. This is true because it comes in 12 different colors. It is more sleek and smooth than the original Jbud Hi-Fi earphones.

Good for listening to anything –

The perfect EQ in these earphones enable me to listen to anything from classical to heavy metal! I also have used these headphones to watch movies which work good but not as great as a surround sound theatre! But hey, these aren’t hundreds of dollars!

It Would Have Been Perfect If…

OK, I am not going to lie but these aren’t perfect earphones. There are things I wish it did and didn’t do. But that doesn’t hinder me from having a great listening experience. Here are the cons…

The Cord is to long –

First off, this is mainly personal preference, but since I mainly listen to my iPod sitting on a bus, I don’t need a 4.5 feet cord! That’s a little to long for my liking!

Tangles easily –

Ok, this may be my fault for shoving the cord in my pocket but these earphones do get tangled easily! Then again, this applies to most other earphones.

Overall I give Jbuds Stereo Earphones a 9/10 stars overall.

If I lost or broke my Jbuds, I would definetly buy another pair! I also heard that Jlabs Audio has great customer service. I would recommend this a friend!

Not to be compared to Bose

Obviously, you can’t compare a $15 earphone to a $200 earphone! However, I will compare the Jbuds to the Apple earphones that comes with all iPods/iPhones. To reduce the amount of typing, I’ll abbreviate Apple Earphones to AE (not Aeropostale) and I’ll abbreviate Jbuds… well what else can you call them besides Jbuds?

Sound Quality –

The AE have better sound quality overall but the Jbuds are still great and the Jbuds have better low end bass frequencies. However, Round 1 goes to AE.

Noise Reduction –

Well the AE weren’t designed to reduce outside noise so obviously the Jbuds win. Round 2 goes to Jbuds.

Durability

I’ve had the AE for about 4 months before the the wire inside broke. My Jbuds are still alive and have been alive for 7 months. Round 3 goes to Jbuds

Comfortability

Well the Jbuds are “in-ear” which you get used to quickly. The AE are semi-in-ear…if you know what I’m talking about. Although the Jbuds are extremely comfortable, the AE are not in-ear so I would have to say that the AE wins. Also because the AE don’t get earwax stuck inside…eww! Round 4 goes to AE.

Price

Price is one of the many fundamental factors. The Jbuds are only $15 and the AE is $30. We know who the winner is… Round 5 goes to Jbuds.

Looks

The Jbuds come in 12 different amazing colors. They look like an earplug, which they sort of are. The AE comes in white only and they just look clean and normal. This is mostly personal preference so I’ll leave you to decide. Round 6 is your choice.

We always had some kind of bread in the house when I was growing up. If it wasn’t rolls for dinner and sandwiches, it was donuts or cinnamon buns from the bakery where Mom worked, different kinds of bread that were served at every meal, cakes that Mom loved to make, chicken potpie (PA Dutch style with rolled strips of dough cooked in flavorful chicken broth), crackers (Dad liked steamed crackers and milk toast) and many other kinds of carb-laden doughy food item.

After living away for almost two decades, I moved back home and was shocked to see just how carb-dependent my parents were. It was not unusual to find two to three loaves of bread open at once (Italian, white and rye) as well as some sort of rolls for sandwiches of at least one type plus the requisite donuts and other sweet treats. Holy cow!!! Much of this bread eventually went to the birds because they’d never eat all of it before it got moldy. I was amazed at the waste (which is easy enough on a good day).

I don’t eat breads like my parents did (although I’ll eat a dinner roll with butter as dessert rather than something sweet). In fact, sometimes our bread, our one single loaf of bread, goes moldy before we get it eaten. But, I still love my carbs.

I’ve improved my eating habits since being diagnosed, which doesn’t mean I’m a perfect specimen of diabetic maintenance. It does mean that how I eat now compared to how I ate 20 years ago has improved. I notice the effects of certain carb-laden foods on my body in a way that I didn’t used to notice. I will still eat refined, bleached flour breads if that’s what’s served to me or if my budget is too tight to pay the price for whole grains ‘” but, I DO eat far more whole grains than I used to. And, I actually enjoy them. I love the nutty texture of the bread, especially when I have crunchy peanut butter with it. I actually enjoyed over the past couple of days some whole grain with flaxseed bagels. I’ve never before eaten a bagel that wasn’t either plain or cinnamon-raisin. I was impressed.

We’ve tried switching to whole wheat pastas, but seriously ‘” I don’t like them. My son refused to eat if we cooked them. They are gritty and their texture isn’t pleasant on the tongue compared to their overly refined first cousins. Maybe they’ll find a way to make whole grain pasta as appealing visually and texturally as they have with whole wheat white bread. So, for the time being, I’m going to mix the whole grain with the refined flour pastas rather than have a meal solely of the one. It’s a start.

As for cereals, I’m doing pretty good at sticking with the whole grains. I LOVE Millville brand Crunchy Granola Raisin Bran which is sold at Aldi Foods. It’s very similar to Kellog’s Raisin Bran Crunch, but at about half the price.

My doctor wants me to try to find either a free glucometer or the cheapest test strips being sold so she can find a free meter for me. I don’t have insurance and am on a very limited income. Diabetes maintenance isn’t cheap ‘” in fact, test strips often cost more than the meter they fit into. The last meter I had had strips that cost more than $60. I got most of mine either on ebay or from Freecycle. I had stocked up, but after we moved a year ago, I haven’t been able to find my meter – thus the need for a new one. My doctor also asked me to see some sugar balance reviews and I did. There are a lot of positive feedback and reviews about the product so I tried. I compliment this supplement with my diet and the results were spectacular.

Anyway, a recent appointment with my doctor helped to re-awaken me to the need for me to start being better to myself. I’m not getting any younger, but I’m not in any hurry to depart the premises. I still love my carbs, but I’ve got to get even smarter about including them in my diet. Focus on the complex and avoid the simple, when possible.

Start asking for sugar-free vanilla syrup in my iced coffee. Or no syrup at all, just coffee, milk and Splenda.

Make sure my cereals are whole grain. Period.

Work on losing the weight I’ve gained since December.

Remember to pick up some snack mix like we had with seeds and dried cranberries so I can make a more texturally pleasing tuna salad to eat on my whole grain bread.

Eat more beans and rice.

Remember that a tight budget doesn’t make it impossible to stay healthy, even if it is a bit more difficult. Finally, be my own best cheerleader and ignore the naysayers who are, despite their protestations, only trying to encourage failure by predicting it so readily. They think that their “reverse psychology” is a type of encouragement, but I have yet to see it work. Especially on people whose self-image is already damaged. So, I need to stand up for myself and be my own best friend and give myself permission to trip and fall while encouraging myself to rise again and go forward. There are far too many things I want to do to be left behind.
