You’ve Taken Off the Weight, Now Keep it Off!

Congrats on your weight loss. Now comes the hard part – keeping it off. You have to make eating in moderation and exercising a way of life. There is no way around it any more than you can hope to have smooth, hair-free legs by shaving or epilating your legs just once. There’s not a woman alive who doesn’t hate the never ending task of defuzzing, but you don’t see them stopping and then blaming the razor for not working when the hair grows back! It’s the same with dieting: you can’t go back to your old eating habits and then complain that diets don’t work when you gain weight back.

Some women are lucky to have been born with naturally hair-free legs. If you’re not one of them, you shave – forever. Some people can eat whatever they like and never put on weight. If you’re not one of them, you have to watch what you eat and exercise – forever. That’s the bad news. The good news is that when you were dieting, you really had to restrict your calorie intake in order to take off weight. Now that you have the weight off and are only trying to maintain a normal weight, you can eat more than you did when you were dieting, though not as much as you used to eat before you started dieting. That’s what put the weight on in the first place.

So how do you keep off the weight without condemning yourself to a life sentence of carrots and celery sticks? There is no magic formula but here is what has worked for me for decades since I dieted off the excess weight I was carrying as an obese ten-year-old. I am not recommending that you do the same, only using my experience to demonstrate that it can be done.

1) I eat only twice a day (breakfast and lunch). I eat anything I like, but in moderation. If I do pig out (and who doesn’t occasionally), I cut back for a while until I’m back to what I call my “default” weight. This way, two pounds never become four, four – seven, and so on. In addition, you may also consider taking weight loss supplements like resurge. This product has also anti-aging properties so it can help maintain your healthy skin as well. Always keep in mind that sometimes, diet and workouts are not enough.

2) I eat no snacks except fruit or vegetables. This is easy for me because if I eat between meals I feel overfull.

3) I exercise 365 days a year. I hate exercise but there’s no avoiding it if you want to keep your weight under control. It is probably not necessary to exercise every single day as I do, but I do it because, frankly, I’m afraid that if I miss a day it will be too easy to miss two, then three, then give up all together. I exercise first thing in the morning to get it out of the way.

4) I eat very little salt because salt encourages water retention, which shows up immediately on the scale. Cut down on salt gradually so you don’t feel deprived. After a while, you won’t miss it at all.

5) I weigh myself every day but I don’t obsess over daily fluctuations as long as I see my “default” weight at least once a month.

6) I drink lots of water.

7) I am highly motivated to keep my weight under control. (For more on motivation click here.)

Only you can find a formula that works for you and fits in with your lifestyle. Stick to it as long as it works and tweak it as often as necessary. This may be every six months, every year, or every few years. Your formula may be completely different from mine. For example, you may do better having many small meals throughout the day. But whatever you come up with for yourself, make sure it’s something you can live with forever. It’s the only way to finally stop the yo-yo dieting.

5 Reasons Camping is a Great Vacation for Young Families

When choosing the right family vacation for your family, several faraway and exciting destinations may come to mind. Maybe you’ve always wanted to visit that expensive theme park, or perhaps an all-inclusive tropical family resort is in your future. Before you pull out the credit card for more holiday than your family can handle, consider camping as an option. When it comes to vacationing with young children or infants, you will find that the benefits of camping can last a lifetime.

The number one factor that most families consider when choosing vacation destinations is cost. When you already have high monthly expenses due to diapers, food, clothing, and other necessities for little ones, there usually isn’t much to spare for a vacation fund. Now is a great time to pay for a trip with cash and avoid credit cards as much as possible. Camping costs are close to those you already have for day-to-day expenses, with only the addition of extra gasoline and park fees. If you choose to opt out of unnecessary tourist-traps, you can keep your spending to a minimum. That money you save this year can be put back for more exotic family vacations when the children are older, or you may decide to put together a fund for a romantic Mommy and Daddy getaway! For family vacations, the use of a large family camping tent can be done through the person. Different cabins will be made available to the person for spending the vacations. The spending of money and efforts will be less for the spending of the vacations with children and spouse or partner.

Campgrounds and facilities tend to be located in or near state parks and national recreation areas. These spots are alive with history, science and nature, and everyone in the family can learn about their world around them while camping and sightseeing. For ideas on what to visit at your next camping trip, simply contact the state visitor’s bureau for the destination of your escape. They will usually have all the of the best vacation stops in detail on their website. If you have time before leaving, you may choose to order free brochures or vacation planners so that children will have the opportunity to see where they will be heading before you hit the road. Being able to visualize their adventure in advance will ease anxiety about leaving home, and older children can “study up” on some of the new things they will be learning about.

What good is a family vacation without family bonding? Most avid campers agree that teambuilding is a serious side-effect of camping together! Whether you are helping to build a fire, pitch a tent, read roadmaps, clean up trash, or scrub the pots and pans, families that work together in a fun environment often go home with an attitude of gratitude and closeness with their siblings. There are several excellent books on camping activities that will take the guesswork out of planning fun games for everyone. Singing songs, campfire stories, scavenger hunts, and swimming are just a few of the hundreds of things families can do together!

While most people have good experiences with hotels and motels, others swear by the benefits of camping with your own supplies. When you use your own blankets and sheets, there is no need to check for bedbugs or clean linens, as you know where they came from. Also, children will be likely to feel more “at home” when you bring “home” with you. Kids can pack their own pillows and sleeping bags, books, toys, and favorite stuffed animals. This is likely to ease anxiety about sleeping someplace strange, and they will be having fun in their new setting in no time! And with most campgrounds just minutes from shopping centers and retail outlets, you can easily find anything you may have forgotten. Some campgrounds even have their own general stores.

Consider camping this year. It is a great way to build memories and skills that your family will always treasure, and it won’t break your pocketbook.

Good Sales vs. Good Negotiations

Often viewed as being skills that are very closely linked, salesmanship and negotiation are two distinct talents with many of their own areas of expertise. Both share many skills that are linked to one another, but they also have many skills that are quite different. Along with that, the goals of salesmanship and negotiation are often quite different.

Much research has been done into what skills help to make a person good at sales and negotiation. For salesmanship the traits most often cited are creativity, passion, integrity, tenacity, and commitment (McCall, n.d.). Whereas for negotiations the characteristics most referenced are honest/ethical, perceptive, realistic/rational, convincing, and self-controlled (Connors, 2006).

Of these two lists the most closely related areas between them would be integrity for sales and honest/ethical for negotiations. This is somewhat obvious for both, because in either endeavor you will not last long if you are thought of as being unscrupulous. Both are also linked in that sales requires the creativity to find non-obvious solutions to problems (McCall, n.d.) and negotiations requires the ability to be perceptive, to see the root of the problems on each side and find a common solution for each parties unique goals.

They also have many areas that may be at odds with one another: The salesperson must possess passion, tenacity, and commitment, whereas the negotiator needs to be realistic/rational, convincing, and self-controlled. If taken too far, passion and tenacity can often come to a heads with being realistic/rational and self-controlled. Also, what can often be different between the two is that a negotiator is most often not looking for what is best for one party, but instead for all parties involved, even if that means it is best to walk away from a deal altogether. On the other hand, in sales quite often the salesman is simply striving to make the sale regardless of whether it is the ultimately the right solution for the other party or not.

The question then comes to whether a person can be great at both salesmanship and negotiation, and there are certainly a select few that can be. For some it is possible to be passionate and yet look at a situation realistically and in a rational manner, just as it is possible to be self-controlled and tenacious. Unfortunately, for most people these traits are not available in proportions that allow them to be great at both. As for the author of this paper, he is good at neither sales nor negotiation, but if forced to pick what he is better at, he leans toward being a negotiator. This is in the sense that, he wants all parties involved to walk away with at least some of their goals met, if not all of their goals.

In this modern generation, it is also an advantage for sales people to use CRM. Is the CRM cloud-based or self-hosted? Well, it depends on your preference. There are CRM software that are cloud based and there are some that are self-hosted.

As with nearly any skill, both sales and negotiation can be learned and practiced, but most often as with many athletic sports, being a great salesperson or a fantastic negotiator comes not only from training, but from innate God given abilities. Many people that are lacking in the skills of one discipline or the other can certainly improve their abilities and be very successful in both arenas. But, to become great at either or both of them takes more than any amount of training or practice can ever achieve.

How to Find Cheap Apartments and Housing in Philadelphia

The first thing a prospective renter should do to find cheap apartments and housing in Philadelphia is to actually set your target price range for your apartment as well as itemizing your available cash. Knowing what your maximum spending limit is will be crucial. Many apartments require first and last month’s rent as well as a security deposit equal to one month’s rent. So, in an apartment going for $600, you will mostly likely need $1800 to move in, not including any fees for the application. The reason I say most likely is that there are some landlords willing to accept just 1st month and the security deposit or perhaps less. Nevertheless, you should expect to require triple your price range target to move in to your new apartment.

These figures would be a determining guideline that is essential for the next step: narrowing down which neighborhood you want to live in. A common clich√© about Philly is that it is the biggest small town in the world. It is a city made up of several diverse neighborhoods that virtually function as their own mini-cities underneath Philadelphia’s larger umbrella. From University City to Olde City, from Society Hill to Overbrook, from the greater Northeast to South Philly, there is a large gamut of subsections you can choose to live. Be warned, certain areas, like Society Hill or Rittenhouse Square, are more costly than others, like West Philly or Olney. I would suggest making a list with a first and second choice, always being mindful of your spending limit

If you are not familiar with Philadelphia, a good place to begin to learn about Philadelphia’s neighborhoods is Wikipedia. Wikipedia has a nice sampling of info about the various areas. Another good resource is Gophila.com, the website for Philadelphia’s chamber of commerce, as well as Philly.com, the homepage for both the Philadelphia Daily News as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Two more very useful sites are the University of Penn(Upenn.edu) and Temple University(temple.edu). Both of their websites are chock full of information about the city, its neighborhoods as well as off-campus housing options. I would spend time bouncing through those sites to get the best picture of where you might want to live and how much that area will cost you.It is really important to check the pictures first of the condo before buying. You can visit their websites also so you can have an idea of the entire property. For example, if you visit the website of The Landmark Condo, you will see all the basic information that you need to know about the property.

The next step is starting your search. Canvas your preferred neighborhoods with a small notebook, scanning for apartment rental signs. This not only has the advantage of letting you find a hidden gem but also lets you get more familiar with your potential future neighborhood. Also, consistently check Craigslist.org, Upenn.edu, Temple.edu and Philly.com. If the area you prefer is closer to downtown, you might also want to look at the Philadelphia Weekly, a free newspaper available at many corners in Center City as well as University City.

You may also check small neighborhood papers as well. They can be found on corners or in local stores. A lot of smaller private landlords like to post their apartment listing in these places, especially Craigslist.org, which might make you aware of some deals you otherwise might miss. On the other hand, you might be able to find someone who is willing to sublet his or her apartment for cheap as well. Either of these might possibly save you some money.

As a rule, the best way to find the most cost-effective apartment is by skipping the larger developments and complexes. Many of these apartments are often overpriced as compared to the market value of that neighborhood. To be fair, there are larger complexes that are priced competitively and accurately, but still, I would suggest bypassing any place that can afford aggressive and/or flowery advertising. Try to find apartments owned by smaller, less corporate landlords, preferably an owner who is actually the one to show you the apartment. Not only will you get an idea of what kind of person owns your apartment, you might be able to make a deal that could reduce your costs.

Another general rule: the best time to find cheaper apartments and housing is September, October and November, especially in the neighborhoods orbiting one of the 5 major universities in the city. Philadelphia actually has more colleges and universities within its limits than any other city in the country. The benefit of this is that the predictable ebb and flow of students coming and going allows you to easily predict the lulls that a smart consumer can take advantage of. Many smaller landlords, especially those with vacancies heading to the fall, are much more willing to be “flexible” in order to fill their property. Be mindful and take advantage.

If you follow these steps, you have a good chance of getting more bang for your apartment buck.

Why Low-Calorie Diet Programs Just Don’t Work

When most people start getting worried about their weight problem, they usually go on a low-calorie diet program, but after a couple of weeks of religiously following the diet plan and taking in a maximum of 1,000 calories a day (which is basically the amount most low-cal diets recommend), they find out that despite the decrease in their daily calorie consumption, they are still not losing weight. So they swear off whatever diet program they’re on, move on to another “miracle” low diet program that just “got on the market”, only for the same thing to happen all over again.

Well the simple reason most low-calorie diets do not work is that by reducing the amount of calories you take in, your body’s metabolic rate automatically slows down and as a result your body burns calories at a much slower rate than it normally does. What most people don’t know is that limiting your calorie intake is a just a small aspect of getting rid of body fat.

In order to burn off fat, you need to understand your body’s metabolism. You see, when you take in a more calories than your body needs for its daily activities, it stores the excess calories it doesn’t need in the form of fat in various parts of your body.

Metabolism is the most important factor that comes to play here because it determines how many nutrients your body can absorb because losing weight is no child’s play but not rocket science either. Also, it is good to look up resurge reviews on a regular basis to shed calories and that extra flab.

So in order to efficiently lose body fat, not only must you reduce your calorie intake, you also need to carry out cardios (which are basically exercises that use up a lot of calories). By limiting your calorie intake, and carrying out cardios at the same time, you create a calorific deficit in your body. As an example, lets say you take in about 1,000 calories each day and yet you carry out daily cardio workouts that use up 1,500 calories, where do you think your body’ll get the extra calories it needs from? You got it, from the fat it has already stored in your body, that’s where.

You see when you create a calorie deficit in your body by expending more calories than you take in, your body is forced to gradually use up all the fat it has stored in order to keep providing the energy it needs for its daily activities. So while going on a low-cal diet is a good first step towards losing body fat, you wouldn’t get anywhere unless you carry out cardios at same time you’re dieting. Don’t worry cardios are not some exotic form of exercise workouts that can only be carried out in a gym. Since cardio is basically any workout routine that uses up a lot of calories, cardio covers a wide range of exercises including brisk walking, jogging, skipping, cycling, and some even claim jumping is also a form of cardio, so you have lots of exercises to chose from.

So don’t get worried that despite the fact that you’ve been on a low-cal diet for like “forever”, you’ve still not lost weight, because now you know why. Stay with whatever low-calorie diet you’re on, but in addition to your diet routine carry out a couple of cardio workouts (preferably 3 – 4 times a week for maximum effectiveness) and in a few months time, that sturbborn body fat you’ve been trying so valiantly to get rid of will finally be “a thing of the past”.

Plastic Surgery- Modern Day Benefits Reaped by Elite Class

Who doesn’t want to look good? Everyone aspires to look like their favorite cine stars like Joaquin Phoenix, Leonardo Di Caprio, Heath Ledger, etc. all of whom are leading examples of what good looks can to your career apart from the fact that they all are phenomenal actors as well.

However, style is more often than not given more importance over substance and it is none more evident than in those horrid Hollywood flicks where mindless action flicks with dangerous stunts don’t make up for a putrid script and horrible acting from some of the most good looking people to walk on the face of the earth.

Slowly, but surely, things are changing but as of now in 2020, good looks always grab the spotlight, which is why you will see people who aren’t exactly attractive tend to take extreme measures to look handsome and become the cynosure of all eyes.

Looking Good

What are the factors that lead to an individual becoming the center of the attraction like say a famous celebrity? It is not always that good looks take the cake but inner beauty is also taken into account apart from genuine talent.

The best way for a not so handsome face to look handsome is to undergo plastic surgery, a popular technique that has been followed since time immemorial and continues to this day.

Although plastic surgery is claimed to have been invented in the 16th century by the British, experts in this matter date its origins back to the 5th century in ancient India where the great scientist Sushrutha came up with the technique.

Regardless, it has become a norm that has taken the entire world by storm and you can find many celebrities from all around the planet who have taken to going under the knife in a big way even if a tiny and innocuous pimple blots their handsome features.

Films mean big business and superstars last as long as they look good, which is why most of them are insecure and worried about future career prospects and hence go for plastic surgery by taking no chances.

Reconstruction

Plastic surgery is defined as facial reconstruction where you get rid of all the unwanted features that threaten to make you look ugly and the fear of losing out on plum offers but that’s not to say that only film stars go for it.

While it’s no secret that the surgery costs millions and billions of dollars depending upon the facial structure and process, people who aren’t well off can do so too, albeit with much less benefits simply because they can’t afford the best treatment.

Reconstructive plastic surgery has taken an upward trend right from its nascent stage in the 1970s but it has other variations like Botox, cosmic surgery, cataract surgery, which might be different in process but have similar outcomes.

Plastic surgery is mainly confined to the face but as of late, reconstruction trend continues to set new milestones in this field that hopes to reach a new wave with the advent of Artificial Intelligence when machines are going to take over human intelligence.

Tips to Teach Your Child Proper Dental Care

It is hard enough to get your child calmed down enough at night and ready for bed. Throw in the need for brushing their teeth and the whole process can leave you and your child ready for a major meltdown. Proper dental care is important for your child, even at a very young age. From the very first tooth, you must take the time to teach proper dental habits.

When your child gets his or her first tooth at around four to six months of age, you may think it is impossible to brush that little tooth. It is not impossible and in fact, this is the perfect time to start teaching your child about how to take care of that precious smile. Tooth decay can start from very early on. When teaching proper dental care in infants, the first step is to find a soft toothbrush that is specially designed for infants and gently clean the area two times a day. It is not recommended that you use “adult” toothpaste on a child that young. However, there are pastes out there that are formulated for babies. If you have problems getting a toothbrush small enough, try a rubbing the tooth with a clean, damp washcloth. This is enough to remove the residue on the tooth and may even soothe teething gums.

As your child gets older, you will still want to help him or her with their brushing technique. You also want them to visit a general dentistry Batavia IL clinic every now and then to ensure that their dental health is in great condition. Children often have dexterity problems getting that brush in there the right way. It is not because they don’t want to brush–they may just have problems doing it the right way. Here are some great tips for getting your child to brush properly:

See the dentist early:

You child needs to see a dentist on a regular basis. Many kids have fears about going to the dentist. Find a good pediatric dentist in your area and start taking your child at a young age. When you start early, you child is less likely to experience fears about going to the dentist. In addition, if you start check ups early, your child is off to a good start when it comes to dental health. Your dentist can recommend the right type of toothbrush for your child and teach your child about proper brushing techniques.

Take your child shopping:

Allow your child to go with you to the store to pick out there very own toothbrush and toothpaste. Picking out a cool toothbrush and toothpaste not only gets them excited about brushing, but prompts them to want to do it more often. There are so many different types of brushes and pastes that are available. Take your child to the store and find one that has his or her favorite cartoon character or action hero. There are also all different kinds of toothpaste out there, too. Just make sure that you find one that is labeled ADA approved and one that has added fluoride. Some kids dislike the taste of strong minty flavors, so look for one that has a fruit or bubblegum flavor instead.

Two minute timer:

It is a known fact that children do not take enough time when they brush. They rush through the process, barely getting the toothbrush in there at all. You can help buy purchasing a two-minute timer. Dentists recommend that children spend at least two minutes brushing their teeth. If you child has a timer, he or she will know when to stop brushing. You can even purchase special toothbrushes that will stay on for a full two minutes, or brushed that light up for two minutes. When the light goes off, your child knows they have brushed long enough. You can also teach your child the 30 second technique. Have them brush for 30 seconds on the back of their bottom teeth, 30 seconds on the front of their bottom teeth, 30 seconds on the back of the top teeth and 30 seconds on the front.

Floss away the plaque:

Kids can sometimes have a difficult time learning to floss with regular string floss. It is hard to wrapped it around the fingers and get it in the mouth just the right way. Your dentist will tell you that flossing is just as important as brushing, so buy some of the special flossers with handles. These flossers make getting the teeth clean easier than ever. In addition, these handy hand-held flossers are easy to take on the go, especially for kids with braces.

Proper dental care is important starting at a very early age. There are many ways you can teach your child the right way to take care of their pearly whites and to ensure less trips to the dentist office.

How I’ve Dealt with Having a Hip to Knee Metal Leg Rod After Breaking My Femur

After I shattered my femur in a drunken fall in 1998 a metal rod was surgically connected from my hip to my knee. As I type this article the metal rod is still in my leg.

After shattering the femur I literally had to learn how to walk again. Weeks of physical therapy including walking with the uneven bars gymnastic equipment helped to strengthen the leg.

One of the most difficult things to get used to was and to some degree still is going down stairs. For some reason it’s been much easier for me to go up stairs than it is to go down. When a stairway has a handrail it is much easier for me to descend a flight of stairs.

Quite frequently I try to take the first step with my left leg which is the one with the rod in it. This is done in an effort to strengthen the ankle and leg. Sometimes I can go down a flight of stairs fairly easily but at other times it can be a real struggle.

When the metal rod was first inserted in my leg I could not bend the leg at all. Now, 14 years later the leg still only bends 1/2-3/4 of the way. Sometimes while I’m sitting in a chair I’ll bend the leg repeatedly for strengthening. Leg-lifts are another easy exercise that I try to do. While laying down on a bed they can be done comfortably.

A certain amount of acceptance has to be exercised when I’m out and about. Crossing traffic has always been something I prefer not to do whether driving or walking. Since getting the rod inserted in my leg I try to be cautious when attempting to cross a street. One thing’s for sure ; I cannot run anymore. It just doesn’t really work. When I’ve tried it the left foot doesn’t make full contact with the ground.

With extensive training and therapy I imagine I could learn to run again, somewhat. To be honest, I’m grateful to be walking and not being able to run doesn’t really bother me.

On a regular basis I attend AA meetings where attendees sit on folding chairs that are arranged in rows. Unless there is a seat open on the end of a row I sometimes stand because when I sit I have to frequently stretch my leg out at a left angle. These AA meetings also taught me about Hip Flexors info. With this, I was able to understand why I was having a hard time with my hips. As a result, I was able to be careful with my movement so the condition will not become worse.

If I’m sitting for long periods of time I find that I cross and uncross my legs a lot and sometimes I hold the left leg out straight or raised to keep circulation good.

Sometimes balance can be less than 100%. Something I’ve noticed through the years is that when I look up while I’m walking a slight sense of vertigo or lack of balance can occur.

When it comes to pain I usually feel it in my ankles and soles of my feet. After having the metal rod inserted in my leg I started developing calluses but I don’t know if walking with the metal rod in my leg has had anything to do with the formation of the calluses.

Microformats: Getting the Most Out of Your HTML

Think of microformats as a way to build upon the standard. They are a way to interpret data from the simpler parts up. Microformats can help your web page visitors easily find certain specific information from your page. Users are able to get more value out of the information you are providing. Specific information like contact details can be processed automatically by software. Email software and web crawlers can identify this data and determine what it means, unlike similar microformat code used in the past. If you are coding an HTML based page that presents readable and useful information you can use a microformat to make that information become both machine and human readable. This means they can really come in handy for community based sites or anywhere there is published information about events, times and people. Microformats are embedded, and can be put anywhere that XHTML is allowed. This is a great way to use XHTML for data. The best part is, you do not have to make changes to the code or page you already have published, you just embed the microformats into what you already have made. There is no hassle with learning a new language or uploading new files to your server. Microformats can also be easily used within existing CSS. Developers have been researching similar ideas about embedding information into HTML for years but the work is just now coming into real fruition. This is a simple answer to many complex problems web developers have come across over the years. Even Microsoft is looking at ways to implement this technology to create more intelligent data. Many developers see microformats as a fantastic step in the HTML coding evolution.
